“When women take care of their health, they become their own best friend” – Maya Angelou
And we could not agree more. In the week of International Women’s Day, we want to talk about something very simple but so important to lot of us:
Self-care.
When was the last time you took a moment for yourself?
It is so easy to neglect own our needs as we fill our lives with work, family, social life and other commitments. We need to step off the treadmill that life is and remember to invest some time for YOU.
Self-care is a loving act towards yourself, an act that nourishes you, comforts you and aligns you closer with the YOU that you desire to be. So just this once, everyone else can wait! It’s time to help yourself feel better.
Invest in a gratitude journal and start your day off by writing down five things that you’re grateful for, it could be several things, your home, your family or anything that makes you happy.
Nailing the art of gratitude every morning helps you put everything into perspective and focus on what is importantly making you happy and whether that stressful situation is really worth your energy.
One of the best self-care tips is to simply do something you love, whether that’s knitting, listening to your favourite podcast or reading a book, this can significantly reduce stress. It can be as simple as lighting your favourite candle, having a soothing cup of tea or even just putting on a face mask, which is just as great for your well-being as it is for your skin!
Whatever that may be, that makes your self-care moment. Try making a habit of doing it once a week, it can help make your mind feel calmer and clearer.
Home is where we can recharge, relax and regain control no matter how chaotic your day has been, so make a ritual of lighting a candle at the end of a busy day - It does wonders for the spaces in your home and your mood. Your shoulders will begin to drop and your breathing slows, bringing you back a moment of peace and a little calm amid the chaos.
We recommend lighting our earthy and grounding fragrances, Amber & Sandalwood and Vanilla Bean & Allspice.
Rich and hypnotic, Amber & Sandalwood is the perfect clock-off scent, inspiring relaxation throughout your home, ready for that moment when you can exhale and pour a glass of your favourite wine. Try adding this warm and sensual soy blend in the lounge room area.
Warm, welcoming and deliciously calming, the creamy blend of Vanilla Bean & Allspice soothes the senses. Like the comfort of a soothing hot tea and a cosy hug, as if it is taking care of your space and YOU! For an always on calming ambience, add the Vanilla Bean & Allspice Fragrance Diffuser in the bedroom.
You read that right! The stressors in your life are usually caused by having too much to do and too little time to do it, so try reducing your workload and manage your time more effectively.
Asked to attend a last-minute dinner invite? Avoid the stress of organising who is going to look after the kids or your fur baby and instead take that time out for yourself.
We find Meditation is a pleasing way to help you relax. Meditation has numerous benefits that can help increase awareness of yourself, your mind and your body. Think better focus, concentration, improved self-awareness and less feelings of stress and anxiety. All you have to do is find a comfortable spot, close your eyes, focus on your breathing taking a few deep breaths, let your mind do its thing and feel the release of any tension in your body.
We could all use a little more sleep, from running around the kids, or family home to getting to work on time, it’s exhausting just thinking about it! Try rethinking your bedtime, one of our favourite guides to self-care is from Yolanda, she recommends “go to bed 30-45 minutes before you plan on falling asleep. Grab a book, listen to music, or write a journal.”
Maintaining a regular sleep pattern of at least 8 hours of sleep a night, will help you to feel more refreshed and increase your positive mood.
So, start making you a priority by setting some time aside with some well-deserved self-care. When we elevate ourselves, we elevate our everyday.
